General therapy questions

Can I benefit from physical therapy?

Everyone can benefit from physical therapy. By working with you and your doctor, Mountain Land Physical Therapy Partners can discuss your options and help determine if physical therapy is the right choice for you.

What should I know about physical therapy?

Physical therapy aims to restore pain free mobility and function and prevent injuries from recurring. Physical therapists are medical experts in musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. They evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain and use hands on techniques, exercises and equipment to restore function.

Do physical therapy treatments cause pain?

Physical therapy is meant to relieve pain. Temporary soreness may occur as weakened or recovering muscles are used, but this is normal and not a cause for concern. Good communication with your therapist can help minimize discomfort.

Will I be more sore after therapy?

We do our best to avoid increasing pain. Occasionally, stretching or moving a joint may temporarily increase discomfort, but many patients feel relief after therapy.

Do you treat my condition at your clinic?

Our physical therapists are state licensed and have graduate-level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, neurology and related medical sciences. They are well-trained to evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions.

When will I start noticing relief?

Each patient’s diagnosis is unique. Your therapist will work with your referring physician to develop a plan of care that includes the number of visits and expected outcomes.

I’m feeling better but want to continue sessions. Is that possible?

Yes. After completing therapy, your therapist can review a continuing at-home program. You may also participate in our independent program if appropriate.

What if I’m not sure physical therapy will help me?

You can schedule a free consultation. During this brief visit, a therapist will discuss your pain and limitations and recommend whether physical therapy is appropriate or if another specialty is needed.

How long will my appointments take?

The initial evaluation typically lasts about 90 minutes. Subsequent sessions usually take 45-60 minutes, depending on your treatment service plan.

How should I prepare for my first appointment?

Bring your prescription and insurance card to verify benefits

Print out, complete and bring these new patient forms

Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any remaining paperwork

For auto or workers’ compensation claims, bring case manager or adjuster contact information and claim numbers

What should I wear to appointments?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows the therapist to access the areas being treated. Supportive sneakers are recommended for exercise.

Where can I find a physical therapist?

Mountain Land Physical Therapy Partners has clinics across Utah, Idaho, and Montana. Our staff provides high quality care in a positive, supportive environment.

How can I schedule an appointment?

What is a deductible?

A deductible is the amount you must pay out of pocket before insurance begins paying. Even after meeting a deductible, you may still owe a copay or coinsurance for visits.

What is a copay?

A copay is a fixed amount you pay for a covered service, usually at the time of your visit. The amount may vary depending on your plan and service type.

What is coinsurance?

Coinsurance is your share of a service cost, calculated as a percentage of the total allowed amount. The amount may vary depending on the service or visit length.

I have two insurances. Will I owe nothing?

Not necessarily. Coordination between insurances may still require payment toward deductibles, coinsurance or copays. Contact our office for assistance.

I paid at the time of my appointment. Why do I still have a bill?

The initial payment is an estimate. Your insurance may adjust the balance after processing, resulting in a remaining bill.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We offer recurring payment plans for your convenience. However, these are subject to interest charges.

Is a doctor’s referral required for treatment?

Utah, Idaho, and Montana allow direct access to physical therapy, so a referral is not required. Some insurance plans may require a referral for claims processing, so please check with your insurer.
